I really enjoyed this book. God works in mysterious ways, as this has been a message I keep hearing about… “Digging deeper”. We are doing a life builder series at our church, so this book is making me dig a little deeper.  There was a question that really made me stop and think:  “Do you love the Cross because it makes much of you?  or Do you love it because it enables you ot enjoy an eternity of making much of God? Wow!  How powerful is that?  It has helped me get back on track with my walk with Christ.

Synopsis

What will you build your life on?

With startling transparency, Joshua Harris shares how we can rediscover the relevance and power of Christian truth. This is book shows a young man who rose quickly to success in the Christian evangelical world before he realized his spirituality lacked a foundation—it rested more on tradition and morality than on an informed knowledge of God.

For the indifferent or spiritually numb, Harris’s humorous and engaging reflections on Christian beliefs show that orthodoxy isn’t just for scholars—it is for anyone who longs to know the living Jesus Christ. As Harris writes, “I’ve come to learn that theology matters. It matters not because we want to impress people, but because what we know about God shapes the way we think and live. Theology matters because if we get it wrong then our whole life will be wrong.”

Whether you are just exploring Christianity or you are a veteran believer finding yourself overly familiar and cold-hearted, Dug Down Deep will help you rediscover the timeless truths of Scripture. As Harris challenges you to root your faith and feelings about God in the person, work, and words of Jesus, he answers questions such as:

What is God like and how does he speak to me?What difference does it make that Jesus was both human and divine? How does Jesus’s death on the cross pay for my sins?Who is the Holy Spirit and how does he work in my life?
With grace and wisdom, Harris will inspire you to revel in the truth that has captured his own mind and heart. He will ask you to dig deep into a faith so solid you can build your life on it. He will point you to somethingto believe in again.

It goes on sale Jan. 19th, so look for it at your favorite book store like Barnes and Noble or Amazon.com.

Karen from WriteFromKaren has started a new meme, appropriately titled the ‘Monday Morning Meme’. It’s a lot of fun – won’t you join in?

1. Would you rather be extremely successful professionally and have a tolerable yet exciting private life, or have an extremely happy private life and only a tolerable and uninspiring professional life? Explain your answer, please. A happy private life. If the job is boring, then at least you can go home and be happy.

2. What are you doing to help the environment? Tell us how you cut down on your environmental impact. The only thing I have done is use those reusable bags at the stores.

3. Who would you not mind being stuck in an elevator with? Someone who’s handy could help get you out. Someone hot could help pass the time. List who’s in there with you. I would hope I would be stuck in there with my hubby… he’s a pretty handy guy.

4. How often does your family have their portrait taken? Is it professionally done? If possible, post your last family portrait. Now that I’ve got you thinking about it, when do you plan on having your next family portrait taken? We usually have one taken every year around Thanksgiving so I can use that for our Christmas card. I would like to have one done professionally, but trying to get everyone on the same schedule is a nightmare. We will have one taken again at Thanksgiving. Here’s the one from last year:

Reviewing

Is it necessary to have mortgage life insurance? I have been going over all of our bills to see where we can cut corners. I have heard that you really don’t need PMI with your mortgage. So is is necessary, or can we do with out it? While it won’t make a huge difference in our mortgage payment, it will add up with all other areas we cut back on. I guess I am going to have to call our mortgage company in the morning to see what we can do. Wish me luck!

Microwave ovens

Comparing prices for microwave ovens. Ours is acting up already. Its not that old either. They just don’t make them like they used to. My first one I received as a gift back in 1989 and that lasted me for a good fourteen years. I would really like to have another one like that one. This time around though, I would like to get one that I can put above my oven so I can free up some counter space.

Looking for a new entertainment center

Posted by: Jodi  :  Category: product ideas

Our old one is looking so worn and overflowing with DVD’s CD’s and other stuff. I would like one with multiple audio racks on it. I want some thing more modern looking but hubby is wanting to stick with the traditional wood kind.

I really like the looks of this one

Some of the features are:
* A two-tone, black and silver finish, designed to complement modern audio-video systems.
*An adjustable design, accommodating various television sizes.
* Clear tempered glass side shelves, designed to hold necessary VCRs, DVD players, video game systems and cable/satellite boxes.
* Lightweight particle-board accents in a black, woodgrain finish.
* Silver metal framing.
* Integrated wire management.

Its easy to assembly and comes with all necessary hardware included. But then again, I would need to find some sort of video unit to store all the DVD’s, CD’s and videos. So back to the drawing board.

Floam

Have you seen this as seen on tv informercial for Floam? Trent saw this the other day and said he wanted some. It looks like it could be a lot of fun. Its safe and non-toxic and is made from special, tiny micro beads that stick to each other and can make anything you can imagine. From the different websites I have seen this on, you can make some fun masks, or mold it to cans to decorate them for pencil holders. I may have to look into it.

We should think about life insurance

Posted by: Jodi  :  Category: product ideas

I should probably check into life insurance for myself. I know my hubby has some thing through his work but I haven’t worked outside the home for the last 13 years. Global Life has term insurance coverage up to $50,000. The monthly fees are pretty good for this too, for as low as $3.27. If for some reason I am not happy with this coverage they have a no risk money back guarantee.

Invitations

I love looking at all the fun invitations from various companies, as they give me ideas to make my own. Birth announcements are my favorite to look at, but you can choose from first communion invitations, kid parties, Wedding/Bridal invitations to even pet parties! Oh what fun that would be to have a party for my kitty Lulu. My niece one year had a birthday party for her dog.

I am going to keep this place in mind for when we finally move. I have to have the cutest “We’ve Moved” cards made up!!

Brought back memories

Posted by: Jodi  :  Category: product ideas

When I was cleaning out Trent’s bedroom a while back I found some of his trophies, along with a few of his brothers. Why they were stashed away in the closet and not proudly displayed I’ll never know.

I know that when I got my trophies from bowling and softball growing up, I proudly displayed them on shelves in my bedroom. The fun I had on the bowling leagues to get these trophies. Softball, was another story tho, I had some nasty bruises from being nailed with a softball.

So I am making my hubby build some shelves so I can display their trophies, which are from baseball and football.

Informercials…

Do you like as seen on tv products? I love to watch these, and have a few favorite items I would love to get. I have even bought a few items I have seen on TV, and later regretted it, as they didn’t work like they showed on TV. I really want to get the Magic Bullet. I keep watching for it to air again, to see if they have the “wait that’s not all, if you call right now, you will get not one, but two for the price of one” deals. If I see it, I am going to get it this year, and give one set to my father in law. He is notorious for buying things off of informercials, and then gives us the “free” one. So I am going to do this for him.
