Time Travel Tuesday
This week we will travel back to a serious accident or illness. Annie says:
“Well because I am a fun loving girl I thought this would be a good place to travel this week.
What’s the most serious accident or illness you have ever had?
Tell us about it!”
You can view more Time Travels over at Annie’s blog.
Let’s travel back to the year 1989. I was going out to my car to warm it up, and clear off a ton of snow so I could get to work on time to “start the donuts” (I worked in a bakery at the time). I was on my way back in the house, carrying the carseat, as my mom was going to keep Christopher with her that day. I knew there was an icy patch on the sidewalk, so I tried to sidestep it, but miscalculated my steps and down I went, I tried to move out of the way of the carseat coming down on me and in the mean time I messed up my thumb/wrist. I knew almost immediately I did some serious damage to it, I got in the house and took off my glove and it was swelling very fast. We made the calls to my boss to let them know I wouldn’t be into work and that someone else would have to open that day.
Off to the ER we went. I ended up tearing tendons and ligaments in my thumb and spraining my wrist. I left there with my arm in a cast up to my elbow. Oh joy! The thought of taking care of a baby like that wasn’t fun! This all happened 2 days before his first birthday. I will see if I can find a picture of this time.
I was in the cast for 8 loonngg weeks! But by the end of that 8 weeks, I had mastered changing a diaper with one hand, and curling my hair!! I was good! I couldn’t work in the bakery for this time, so I was put on the front register of the store. This was a convience store/bakery.

Ouch!
That was pretty talented changing the baby with one hand especially at his age. I have a 10 month old and sometimes we need 4 hands to get his diaper changed with all that squirming they do.

Ouch Ouch Ouch.. amazing how moms master the art of changing diapers one handed, blind folder and standing on out heads all with an escape artist as our baby..
I have been changing diapers every day of my life for the last 8 years. (I would say 12 years but I had a 2 year brake between # 1 and #2)
Great Time Travel Tuesday

wow I can’t imagine taking care of a one year old with a cast on your hand, when my husband and I would babysit our little nephew, it took two of us to change his diaper.
Yes that ice- no one is graceful on that

That sounds really painful! Ice can be so tricky. Wow, I don’t know how you managed, I couldn’t change daipers with only one hand.

I should be able to change a diaper with 1 hand since I have been changing diapers for 11 years without a break. LOL!
Was your cast itchy????

I’m impressed with your skills! When I broke my wrist, I couldn’t do my hair or change my baby by myself for the entire 6 weeks!
