Seven things about October

Posted by: Jodi  :  Category: Uncategorized

I stumbled upon this site called Cafe Writing via a forum I belong to and liked what I saw. I am trying to get my writing skills up, so I think this might be an excellent avenue for me!

My 7 things pertaining to October:

Red Flannel Day ~ is always the first Saturday in Cedar Springs, MI. When I was still in school I went every year, making sure I wore red so I wouldn’t get nabbed by the Keystone Cops and thrown in jail. Then I moved from the area and didn’t go for quite a few years. I just recently started going again with a friend and my SIL and nieces. We have lots of fun walking around and then watching the parade. You can see some pics of this years event here.

Fall Foliage ~ I love the change of seasons here in Michigan. The smells, colors and cool, crisp air. Falling leaves, raking them into huge piles and letting the kids jump in them. So much fun!

Harvest Trails ~ we have so many fun orchards to head out to and have fun picking apples and finding the right pumpkin. I am going to a Pumpkin Patch this Saturday with a bunch of moms and our kids. I am ready to get some yummy apples to eat, make pies, apple fritters and applesauce.

Halloween ~ I don’t get into all the decorations, but I love to see all kids in costumes while out trick or treating.

Cooler weather ~ we can wear sweaters and sweatshirts! I love to wear sweaters! Snuggling under blankets with a good book is fun to do on cool fall nights.

Fires ~ while we don’t have a fireplace my inlaws do and I love to go over there on the weekends and sit in front of a nice fire. I wonder if I can talk him into having one on Sunday!

Baking ~ I do bake alot through out the year, but I start doing more once the cool weather hits us. I am itching to make some pies!

For this and other great writing ideas, check out the October project menu at Cafe Writing, a brand new site for writers.

I like a nice warm fire but only if I’m really cold!

    Jodi -

Thanks so much for joining us! I hope you’ll check back in November for next month’s prompts.

I’ve linked your post on the participant’s entry; let me know if you’d like to be part of the blogroll.

Red Flannel Day sounds so cheerful and homey - I love stuff like that. Of course, I live in Texas, so we’d have to have “red cowboy boots” day instead.

I liked your list (reminds me of mine -I’m a Michigander too!)

Great list. I wish I lived up north to enjoy some of those things.

Living in South Florida, the only one on your list we get is Halloween.
